What do you do when you've been laid off from your job as a special-agent for the Supernatural Affairs Unit (SnAfU)? Why not start your own private-investigation agency? It has been six months since Cordova's adopted son, Milo, used his unique powers as an oracle to convince the former head of SnAfU to gift Cordova, and her mage partner, with a building from which to work from. Since that time, they have developed a unique niche from which to work from: serving the investigative needs of the supernatural community. Need help locating a Monkey's paw so you can undo your first two wishes? Cordova and Booke are on the case! Need help tracking down a missing witch? They can do that, too! When a faerie comes to them asking for help finding a mystical box with a genie inside, it seems like business as usual for this unique pair. When said faerie turns out to be the lovesick son of a mob-boss, and is looking to run away with the girl he found in the mystical box, it becomes decidedly more bizarre. Their lives are made more difficult when Cordova's sister-in-law comes to them with a case of a young witch that has been kidnapped. It gets personal for Cordova when all evidence points to her younger brother, Carlos, as being the culprit. With Milo spending most of his time in Avalon with the dragons, Booke and Cordova are on their own to solve these cases. How far will Cordova go to clear her brother? When it comes to family, what is off-limits? Can they recover the box before their young client's faerie godfather finds out and punishes the boy? These are the questions Cordova and Booke must face as they race to save the life of a little girl while trying to recover a mystical artifact that could shift the balance of power in Chicago. Can they save the girl, recover the artifact, and save the Cordova family's reputation?
