There are precious memories of the past that we would like to retain through touchstones and mementos that remind us of these memories. Yet, beyond such cherishing is holding on to the past because it conveys to us a sense of identity without which we might feel less comfortable. The need for identity held in the past often forecloses the willingness to change in the present or to embrace an unknown future, and is based on the fear of the unknown within ourselves and within life. Within relationships as well, the same motivation may operate. This book was written as an aid in releasing clinging to the known that is so common today, so that we may embrace the mystery of the unknown. This mystery is the presence of the Divine within life, and it calls to us to live more in the present and to allow it to shape us and change us in ways that are unforeseen.
