Twelve year old Bo had just struck a spark with the prettiest girl in school when Daddy shatters life itself with, "Momma just died in a car wreck and they are blaming me. Bo, I'm so sorry, but we gotta run." From a cave mouth where they are hiding out Bo sees Ceecie and Whisper riding together in full harmony - without saddle or bridle. He falls in love but does not show himself until Whisper brings Ceecie second and a third time. Compelled by love Bo Shows himself but tells Ceecie he and Daddy are searching for outlaw treasure left by an ancestor who left only vauge directions in a diary. His Daddy walks up on the conversation and drags Ceecie into the depths of the cave to leave her tied hand and foot. Whisper runs for help and we get a hint about his past when Johanna tries to ride him. Bo's rescue is aborted to accomplish Ceecie's rescue but Ceecie sets a brilliant plan in motion to save the boy she loves.
