In the very near future, and quite by chance, two university students are going to stumble on an alternative propulsion system that harnesses gravity. Far from being the panacea science fiction authors would have us believe, its release onto earth society would cause untold harm. Politically and economically, the cheap propulsion system would make all forms of motorised transport redundant, and revolutionise warfare. There's only one thing to do. Remove it from the grasp of everyone who wants it. That means taking it, and everyone who knows of it, into outer space. That means testing it first, which will require a support group, and that means getting help. From earth's perspective, the race is on to find who can silently and secretly lift items into orbit, and the prize is so rich, that nothing is going to get in their way, least of all a few university students, a college professor and a drunk, whether he was a military intelligence officer or not. From England to Japan and South Korea, through Europe, the chase is on to narrow down who, what and where. Nothing is judged too bad, not when the prize can provide cheap, clean and unlimited travel practically overnight.
