Bessie Braddock was unique. She shared her life and politics with her equally interesting and unique husband, who was a staunch local councillor. Both of them worked tirelessly for the City of Liverpool. Renowned for achieving political power against all the odds of class and education, their political life is well documented. It is their private life that is revealed here, in this drama for one female and two male performers.. We ask the question, what was their relationship to one another, to their family and to their friends. Also, did they ever question their own political effectiveness? This play tries to find the real woman who for twenty-five years served her beloved city in the House of Commons and who refused Cabinet posts because it would distract her attention, from the needs of the people of Liverpool.
