Naibu steps up with a massive debut long player for horizons, and this highly polished 'concept' album has everything. Our resident french drum and bass maestro blends together an impressive range of styles into an all encompassing theme of lush, spacious, melodic soundscapes featuring organic instrumentation and percussion, soulful vocals and biting electronic synthesis. 'Habitat', described by Naibu as a term chosen to encapsulate the idea of each track as a different room, a different experience, is so versatile, it rocks the dancefloor at times, while on occasions propels the listener far into the depths of chill-out territory and beyond (think Zero 7 and 4hero - yes, it's that good!). * 'Habitat' kicks off with the atmospheric 'Come in Slow' a real scene-setter with an 80s style synth bass backbone, accompanied by harps, rhodes and huge reverberated percussion hits, leading into 'Keep it Simple', a hypnotic drum bass roller with an unforgettable piano and string arrangement, evoking real emotion, both on the floor, in the car and at home. Next up is 'Decay' featuring the soulful vocals of Simon Jinadu, an atmospheric neo soul masterpiece guaranteed raise the hairs on the back of your neck. * This vibe is sustained as the album continues towards 'Into the Distance', a track complimented by sensual female vocals and fresh, soaring pads, but this time dropping into a crisp jungle break sitting behind a heavy bassline which we have seen going down a storm in clubs on many occasions. 'Secret Room', featuring Miss Drop, is another ambient drum and bass stepper with a mysterious, searching vibe and subtle vocal pressure, which is the perfect prelude to 'Shuttle', a deep, down tempo head nodder with enough depth to entrance even the most casual listener. 'Dig the Past', another one of the LP's drum and bass cuts provides heavy sub pressure, gelled together with 'Habitat's' distinct blissful ambient melodies, warm pads and crisp beaks, before 'All Places' takes over
