Bud Powell
Bud's first Blue Note dates are here in complete form as originally released on two 10" albums. The 1949 sessions features drummer Roy Haynes, bassist Tommy Potter and the horns of Fats Navarro & Sonny Rollins (making his recording debut) on "Bouncing With Bud" and "Wail". The 1951 trio session features Dillon "Curley" Russell and Max Roach on "Un Poco Loco" and "A Night In Tunisia" and shows Powell as a rhythmic player as well as a chordal one on these bouncy Afro-Cuban type numbers. Side two with George Duvivier and Art Taylor includes eight master takes from the 1953 session. "I Want to Be Happy" and "Sure Thing" were also released as 78 rpm singles.
