Revelations of Divine Love
Susanne Sundfør
Since she released her latest studio album, "blómi" (2023), Sundfør has become a mother of two, has left city life behind to settle in the Norwegian countryside, and has entered what she herself describes as the most transformative period of her life. It was a time characterized by tranquility, reflection, and a new understanding of love – something that eventually led her to the texts of the 14th-century English mystic Julian of Norwich.
The result is "Revelations of Divine Love", Sundfør's eighth album and one of the most courageous works to date in a career already marked by challenging boundaries. The album was recorded live in Bragernes Church exclusively with organ and vocals, stripping away everything superfluous. Through thirteen tracks, including spoken passages and instrumental organ pieces, Sundfør brings Julian of Norwich's words to musical life, drawn from Grace Warrack's seminal 1901 translation of "Revelations of Divine Love" – the first known book written in English by a woman.
