'Round About Midnight at the Cafe Bohemia: The Complete Masters [Mono] Kenny Dorham Limited edition

The complete recording of Kenny Dorham’s first live album, which remains immensely popular among musicians and jazz fans to this day, is being released as part of Blue Note’s “Tone Poet” vinyl series. Kenny Dorham performed with his sextet at the New York club “Cafe Bohemia” in May 1956. Six months earlier, he had also performed as a member of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers and produced “Jazz Messengers At The Cafe Bohemia” – another work that showcases his fully matured style of playing. This album remains one of Dorham’s most representative works and allows listeners to fully experience the atmosphere of hard bop from that era.

Universal Music Japan’s exclusive release of “'Round About Midnight At The Cafe Bohemia: The Complete Masters” is a unique project available in the Hybrid-SACD format and includes a translation of the booklet. The remastering was handled by Kevin Gray, who previously contributed to the “Tone Poet” series. The cutting and remastering were performed using the original master tapes, and the highly acclaimed natural and warm sound conveys the experience of listening directly from an analog tape. The booklet includes content such as previously unpublished photographs by Francis Wolff and an insightful essay by Syd Schwartz.
