The Golden Age of the Cornett
William Dongois
The cornett (also known as the cornetto or zink) is an early wind instrument that dates from the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. William Dongois is one of the best-known cornet players of our time. On the present double CD, together with the ensemble Le Concert Brise, he dedicates himself to the "Golden Age" of the cornett - the period between 1580 and 1630 in Northern Italy. The first disc focuses on secular dance movements and songs of the Italian Seicento, whilst the second disc features sacred instrumental and vocal music written for St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice during the time of Monteverdi.
