Bright Up
Adrien -Trio- Moignard
Adrien Moignard has, without a doubt, two of the most beautiful "hands" in the business. Where guitarists are concerned, the term "hands" is used to describe both a morphology that is ideally adapted to the instrument and the accomplishment of long, rigorous practice resulting in clean, fluid movements. For an improviser, this is a
rare quality, since an idea must be conveyed "in real time" and the body follow any musical suggestion immediately. In the field of jazz, only a few great soloists are capable of this. Adrien is one such musician.
So, let's talk about "Bright Up", since the expression sets the tone, and the track opens the album. Whilst not a real "verbal creation", it is one of those famous contractions boppers love. In music, "bright" and "lively (or uptempo)" are used to characterize both the mood of the music and its tempo. In this case, simply juxtaposed, the terms relate to both Adrien's playing in general and to the mind-blowing theme that opens the album. A good definition might well be "stimulating", and "a tonic" whose properties are to illuminate and light up the moment, if not the situation. We wish listeners to this opus nothing less!
