Reissue of Charli XCX's influential EP, Vroom Vroom, on black vinyl.

The Vroom Vroom EP, released in February 2016, is today considered a pivotal turning point in 2010s electronic music and is often referred to as the unofficial birth of hyperpop. The four-track EP was released on Charli XCX's own label, Vroom Vroom Recordings, and was created in close collaboration with the visionary British producer SOPHIE. Together, they broke with the traditional structures of pop music and replaced soft melodies with an industrial soundscape and heavily pitch-manipulated vocals.

The Vroom Vroom EP laid the foundation for hyperpop by uncompromisingly uniting underground rave culture, avant-garde sound design, and extremely catchy pop hooks. Tracks like "Vroom Vroom", "Paradise", "Trophy", and "Secret (Shh)" introduced a distinctly industrial sound universe, where bright, saccharine pop vocals were juxtaposed with hard-hitting, metallic production. This radical combination challenged the pop conventions of the time and inspired a new generation of producers and artists to experiment with maximalist electronic pop.

The reception among more traditional music critics was initially strongly divided, but Vroom Vroom quickly built up a significant cult status – particularly within underground electronic scenes and among the queer audience. The EP marked the moment when Charli XCX transformed from a hitmaker in mainstream pop into one of pop music's most innovative artists. Simultaneously, it laid the groundwork for her close collaboration with the PC Music collective and paved the way for the experimental mixtapes and albums that followed.
