Sweet Dreams In this début album of piano pieces, I am interested in music which stems from experiences and endeavors: pieces that are something of 'by-products'. However, I've been exposed to a lot of diverse music.. and the influences can be heard here: although they are not pursued, musically speaking: such would be more of a Tributes album. The idea for the title Sweet Dreams came when I played the pieces to friends, and they said the music was calming and like stories. This confirmed what I had intended. The sense of a narrative is achieved partly through making a piece through a series of non-repeating sections; although there may be development of ideas within a piece. Each is written out, but is based on an improvisation, which also helps to create a sense of wholeness. I wouldn't take the titles too seriously: they came after the music, and shouldn't detract from one's direct responses! So, for example, Reminiscence was written after some important exams; Wish You Were Here after some friends were away; NYC Wedding after a wedding I went to in New York; and Looking Forward (which originally had the catchy title Progress In Peacetime) after finally securing premises for a clubhouse after an arduous search. I love music, but I see it in a context: as something of an enhancement, rather as an end in itself. We don't need just to be appreciating; but to be doing: I hope my music helps people to aim for positive achievable goals, and to reach them.
