Red Letter Day Tom Lucas
Red Letter Day
Tom Lucas
Originally available only on a private label this New York rock/R&B singer-songwriter made an extremely fine album which had tight song writing and occasionally politically motivated lyrics (particularly the title track with it's eye glancing towards Woody Guthrie's tribute to Sacco and Vanzetti), the music often risky and experimental. Lucas's vocal style is almost pure Neil Young (although on Broken Wheel his New York roots do make him sound very similar to Lou Reed), and at times Red Letter Day feels almost like the album Young never got around to making. Originally released in 1976 this then is the first real opportunity for a great album to be enjoyed by the wider audience it surely deserves. The original vinyl LP Red Letter Day contained 9 songs and was limited to 500 copies. This new 10 song CD is truly a 1st edition by the only company Tom has authorized to produce and market his works. It includes for the 1st time 'Stars in the Night', a centerpiece track (not on the vinyl) from the original Red Letter Day recording session! Lyric sheets for all songs included.
