Stephen Foster is probably the most popular and enduring American composer of the 19th-century, and here is a release that really takes the measure of the man and his work. Inside is a 92-page booklet that includes a biography of Stephen penned by his older brother, Morrison; a foreword penned by his grand nephew, Richard K. Foster; and complete lyrics to the 18 songs the package contains, which are performed by 19th century music specialist Douglas Jimerson: Camp town Races; Oh! Susanna; My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!; Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair; Beautiful Dreamer; the Merry, Merry, Merry Month of May; Old Folks at Home, and more classics.
