Koko Taylor Chess 75 Series edition

Koko Taylor's self-titled album from 1969 cemented her position as Chicago's undisputed "Queen of the Blues". She was discovered by Chess Records' house bassist and producer Willie Dixon at the legendary Chicago club Sylvio's Lounge, and Dixon gave his new protégé the song "Wang Dang Doodle", which sold over a million copies and became her undeniable signature tune. Building on her successful string of hit singles, Koko Taylor features, in addition to "Wang Dang Doodle", Willie Dixon classics such as "Twenty-Nine Ways (To My Baby's Door)" and "Yes, It's Good for You", as well as Taylor's own "Nitty Gritty", highlighted by Johnny Shines' atmospheric slide guitar. The album continues to stand as a cornerstone of Chicago-electric blues.

The Chess 75 series was launched in 2025 to mark the 75th anniversary of Chess Records. The series consists of carefully selected audiophile vinyl reissues that celebrate the label's immense importance to American music. Each album is meticulously remastered from the original analog master tapes and pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl at Quality Record Pressings (QRP). The releases come in exclusive tip-on gatefold covers printed on heavy-duty quality cardboard.
