Gospel Train Sister Rosetta Tharpe Verve Vault Series edition
Gospel Train
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Sister Rosetta Tharpe's Gospel Train from 1956 is an undisputed, but often overlooked masterpiece in the development of what we today know as modern rock 'n' roll. The album was groundbreaking in several ways. It was her first release for Mercury Records and also the first of her releases to be issued on the then-new 12" LP format – a format that has since become the standard for vinyl albums. Even more importantly, Gospel Train unites Sister Rosetta Tharpe's characteristic blend of electric guitar-driven blues and traditional gospel in a refined studio production, accompanied by first-class studio musicians, including the vocal quartet The Harmonizing Four.
Verve Vault Series is an exclusive series of vinyl reissues that revives the golden era of jazz. Curated by Verve Label Group and UMe, the series features audiophile editions of iconic jazz albums. Each release is meticulously remastered from the original analog master tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal in Germany.
