Pirmasens, situated on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, takes its name from the itinerant preacher Pirminius and was first mentioned in documents in 850. Landgrave Ludwig IX of Hesse-Darmstadt, who had a preference for large grenadiers, developed the town into a garrison town, which was then granted city rights in 1763. After the death of the landgrave and the decline of the garrison, the population made a virtue of necessity and switched to shoe production, which is why the people of Pirmasens are still called Schlabbe today. This is not the only reason why Pirmasens has experienced ups and downs, as the town is built on seven hills. Let us invite you to take a stroll through the town.
