Australia is home to a wide variety of mammals. Almost half of them belong to the marsupial group. Marsupials are mammals that raise their young in a pouch. In this group with approximately 120 species, some of the probably most famous animals of Australia, like kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats or opossums can be found. The word marsupial is derived from the Latin marsupium, meaning bag. The young are born in an early, still embryonic state and grow to a well-developed stage within the pouch that provides them protection. Only then do they leave the pouch. In addition to Australia, a few marsupial species are also found in the Americas. This successful calendar was re-released this year with the same images and updated calendar.
