The traffic was horrible, as it always is on the first day of the Fair. People were renting space on their front lawns at outrageous rates because parking had become so scarce. The fairgrounds had been full during the day, but with the sun setting, the number of visitors had tripled. People were enticed to come in and ride the rides, play the games, and view the attractions with blue ribbon winners, animals, and late-night concerts by the vividly coloured lights that illuminated the entire area. A woman with a rucksack wandered among the crowds, cautiously eyeing each face that passed her by.

Her eyes were continually watching everything and everyone around her as she continued along the line of games. She needed to keep pushing forward. There was a possibility she'd be safe as long as she stayed among the people and kept moving. She could have concealed under a hat and sunglasses, but she'd done it before and been discovered fast. The sound of carnies yelling 'hey baby, ' 'small lady, ' 'pretty, ' and'sweetheart' only served to remind her of her stalker's extended reach. He'd be lurking behind every corner, his black ferret eyes following her every move. Even if he wasn't, she knew he was aided by others.
