Common Sense (Annotated)
Thomas Paine
Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the time-The purpose of realizing this historical context is to approach the understanding of a historical epoch from the elements provided by the text. Hence the importance of placing the document in context. It is necessary to unravel what its author or authors have said, how it has been said, when, why and where, always relating it to its historical moment. Thomas Paine was an American politician and publicist of English origin, promoter of liberalism and democracy. He trained self-taught and became a very important American revolutionary, with ideas in conflict with his time that fought against sexism, slavery, racism and monarchy, which he opposed by proposing instead the republic. Always struggling with all kinds of economic troubles, he worked as a tax officer chasing smugglers of liquors and tobacco and managed to enlighten himself by buying books. His luck changed when he met Benjamin Franklin, who encouraged him to seek fortune in America by giving letters of introduction. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1774 and there he directed the Pennsylvania Magazine or American Museum. By generalizing the discontent of the Colonies, Paine encouraged the rational ideas called by him of "common sense",
