Meet Gia. She is a 16-year-old girl who clings to structure in order to escape the maddening dysfunction of her life at home. But with her rigid way of living comes her need to conform to America's expectation of what a "civilized" Black teenager should look like. Meet Carson. He is a 17-year-old pastor's son who has known tragedy and seen too much injustice in the world to still have complete faith in the God he thought he knew. Their paths cross when Gia gets a job babysitting Carson's 6-year-old sister, Amy. And as their worlds begin to collide, along the way they manage to teach each other a little something about faith, hope, and the greatest of these: love.
