About This JournalSankofa is a term derived from the West African Akhan tribe. It reminds us that to have a future of fairness, we must revisit lessons from the past. Sankofa Inventor's Journal allows young inventors to imagine problems of the past, compare them to problems of the present, and follow the steps of the engineering design process to invent solutions for the future. Along with its poetic passages, the journal includes (1) invention pages, (2) illustrations of youth looking back into the past, and (3) monthly pathways for journaling important dates that notate unsuccessful slave voyages across the Atlantic Ocean and names of slave captives.
