John Hartig decided to ride out the Second Wave of the Covid-19 crisis by journaling through it. He tracked news on the Donald Trump administration, his impeachment trial, the storming of the Senate chambers and the vaccine progress throughout the Second Wave of the Pandemic. During that time, John also had time to think and came up with 19 contemplations about various topics especially relevant to modern times in the United States, Canada and indeed the world. He offers the public his opinions on needed reforms in gun control, health-care, police brutality and humanity in general. John moved to Canada from war-torn Austria after World War II with his family. The family spoke no English and had two suitcases. He knows what it was like to suffer systemic racism being called a "Kraut" and a "Nazi" as a little boy. He mastered English and indeed has an M. A. in English Literature. He knew nothing about black people, slavery and North American indigenous folk who were forcibly Christianized and whose land was taken away from them. His own folks, mother from Serbia and father from Romania, were dispossessed of their farms during World War II and had to start over first in a refugee camp in Austria and then in Canada which offered new opportunity to immigrants. Canada has been a blessing to the Hartigs. John was the first in his family to receive a university education. Yet, John sees so much disparity in the society among men and women and among people of color. There needs so much to be fixed in the Canadian Mosaic, among the races, among rich and poor and among seniors in the long-term healthcare system. We have a long way to go in 2021 to become more humane and civilized. John Hartig, Author, Scenery Photographerand Web Designe
