Every book has its beginning point. A book may start with a challenging idea presented to the author. It may start with a story that provokes the author to reflect on a personal experience or historical event in his own life. A book may start with a challenge. However, a book usually starts with an opportunity to address a particular issue and enlighten the readership on a philosophical, sociological, theological, or psychological issue of contemporary importance. All books I have written have been prompted by a theme or an informational message for the reader to personally advance in the context of their community, family, and business world in which they live out their values, passions, goals, and purpose. Accordingly, this book, Deep Roots, was prompted when I came across the personal creed of John D. Rockefeller. I encourage you to access it, read it, study it, and consider the creed of Mr. Rockefeller as having value for you today. Upon reading the creed of Mr. Rockefeller, I commenced searching the historical documents for the creeds of other great men and women throughout history, and especially those that we identify as models of leadership, social change, spiritual enrichment, and educational advancement. It was not long after reading the creed of Mr. Rockefeller that I thought of Jonathan Edwards and so many others, such as Robert E Lee, Mother Teresa, Anne Frank, John F. Kennedy, various presidents, and so many others It is from this process of "search and seizure" that this book came about with its internal and consistent message of "deep roots." I challenge you to turn to Chapter 7 and read the creed of John D. Rockefeller and then read throughout the entire book the creeds, and advice given by men and women you know and admire, as well as from those that you may never heard of before but who stand by ready to be your mentor, teacher, advisor, and your leader. As you read, enjoy. As you read, learn. As you read, learn lessons of faith, leadership, kindness, friendship, and other messages so important in living a life that is effective and influential.
