The author was privileged to serve as the pastor of this historic church at the time of her 150th anniversary. In this book he details the church's story from its organization in 1854 by George Baines (the maternal grandfather of former president Lyndon B. Johnson), to the construction of its building in 1872 by then pastor J. M. Carroll (author of The Trail of Blood), and then decade by decade through the 20th Century and into the 21st. Sam Houston, Z. N. Morrell, B. H. Carroll, and numerous other prominent characters in both Texas history and Texas Baptist history were worshipers in this church and central to her history.
