Turkey farmer and occasional seamstress Marjory realises late in life that to be happier she must leave behind her brother and his loathsome pigs. But how should she go about this, when Billy's signature is required to sell their property, and he insists that everything must stay as it has always been? Other characters in this collection of thirteen short stories include a hapless lottery winner, a painter struggling to meet an important deadline, an NGO worker questioning his ambitions, and a little girl whose quest for acceptance clashes with her mother's pursuit of freedom. By choice or by accident, all are faced with change-and the quandary of how much they can shape their circumstances. About the author: Jens Jakubaschk is a German-British writer and translator. He studied Political Science, Psychology and Law in Germany, Journalism and Acting in the US and African Studies in the UK. Since then, he has travelled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa, worked as a freelance contributor to TV documentaries and spent some time living in France. His fiction draws inspiration from his travels and his observations of human nature, often focusing on individuals' striving for self-fulfilment given the demands of modern life. His writing is realistic in style and doesn't shy away from addressing serious issues, but never without a good dose of humour and the occasional sprinkle of the absurd. He lives in southern England where many of his stories are set.
