Sarah Jeffers struggles with the feeling of not belonging, which is one reason she became a teen volunteer at Old Economy Village, a living history museum. Last summer another volunteer had successfully shifted to the village in 1830, and that's all Sarah yearns to do. After her sister, Tracy, shares an upsetting secret with her, it strengthens her resolve. Loving history, she has learned all about the lives of the Harmonists in the early 19th century, and feels she's ready to live in the past. Two things hold her to the present, though, her enjoyment of teaching the younger children at the village's summer camp, and Tracy's problems with a troublesome boyfriend. If Sarah discovers the portal into the past, will she finally arrive at the place where she belongs?
