The present book is a course in the Swahili language, which is spoken mostly in East Africa. The book is for absolute beginners and leads them to an intermediary level of knowledge. The author has been teaching languages for the past 35 years (German, French, English, Hebrew, Swahili). The book, therefore, is based on the author's experience as a language teacher, as well as on her living in Zanzibar, where Swahili is the official language. The author relies on traditional methods of teaching. She finds it important that the newcomer to a language gets explanations, especially about the grammar. These explanations can only be understood if given in a language the student already knows well. In addition, the author is convinced that once a student knows the basic grammar structure of a language it is easier to fit in the words in their right form. "Grammar is like the line on which you hang your clothes. The clothes are the language. It's the line you keep while you change the clothes. The same applies to language learning: the basic grammar remains, whereas the language can change."The author is planning to write more language books according to her specific method. "Swahili for Each Month", therefore, this is only the first book in a planned series. Feedback about the present book will be appreciated!
