When I am lost I know that I can always be proud of one thing and I think of that thing often and that is being a mother. Being a mother is composing a symphony when you don't have enough notes. Being a mother is finding yourself at the end of a precipice and knowing that the memory of someone will bring you back. Being a mother is reaching the stars when your children are well and feel their lost and sorrow when they are lost. Being a mother is welcoming love in a world of nothingness and darkness. Being a mother is protecting them from the darkness and at times pretending that is not there. Being a mother is fighting against strangers to protect what you know is worth protecting. Being a mother is finding yourself wanting to do better for them. Being a mother is having laughter and smiles from small booties trampling around the house. Being a mother is imagining their future and hoping that it will be better than yours. Being a mother is writing this book and opening your heart.
