He finds the courage to learn the truth for himself by embarking on a harrowing journey to the deepest and darkest part of the ocean. Children will read about meeting someone for the first time that may seem intimidating and different, but realize they have common traits and can help one another. AUTHOR'S PURPOSEMeet many diverse ocean characters through Zip's journey and come away inspired to be more accepting and kind. There are many life lessons woven throughout this story, some of which are obvious and others subtle. The author would also like to instill an appreciation for our oceans and other waterways. Although this is a Fictional Story the book includes a 4 page Non-Fiction section at the end which includes Sea Lions, Ocean Zones, Blue Whales, and Angler Fish. It is hoped that this, along with the story, fosters an appreciation for our oceans and the animals in them. A FUN ACTIVITY WITH ZIPZip can be found in every full page illustration except the last. He is hard to see at first glance in some scenes, making it fun for kids to find him. EDUCATIONAL SECTION The book also comes with Discussion Questions and an Activities that Parents, Caregivers, Teachers, and Counselors can do with children. The conclusion is Open Ended which allows for lots of meaningful discussions.
