Advent is a celebration long-observed annually across numerous denominations of Christianity. Yet not everyone knows the reason or history of the four-week fete leading up to Christmas. The tradition involves counting down days in commemoration of Christ's Incarnation, but that is just the second half of the celebration. The first two weeks of the Advent calendar are set aside for reflection on the anticipation of His Second Coming (or Parousia, in Latin).
