Off on his own, subject to the harsh elements of autumn in the north, Zachary has a near-death experience due to his stubborn unwillingness to use his supernatural abilities. When he wakes, he finds an unworldly sphere only he can communicate with. His travel brings him to a village tormented by bandits. Once again, he is pressured to use his abilities to kill. Later he is introduced to the family who saved him from certain death at the hands of the Circle of Benediction. Looking into his future, another ability he would like to ignore, he sees his friends destroyed by a creature bound in chains, now loose in the world. He is left with the choice to help his friends and face his destiny or run away and avoid the fight, ignore his powers, and attempt to be a normal kid.
