The author skillfully crafts a story about what it's like growing up for a few teenage boys. The trials and tribulations faced in the small town in the 1970's where of boys spend the summers with little or no parental supervision. The boys occasionally get into a little trouble due to boredom. Regular meetings are held at the Bench where planning for trouble begins. The boys smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, steal from the local variety store. John becomes the leader and trouble begins with the locals gets worse but then climaxes with "The Ambush."The author uses descriptive details that brings you back to the 70's and in some instances humor to describe the problems of growing up ones' own.
