This is an English adaptation of the German memoir: "Wir Kinder vom Hinterhof". It is put together in tales from not only sad, but also many funny and humorous memories of how three cheeky Berlin kids survived the war and the difficult years of hunger. Always alone, but free and happy latch-key children who spent their free time with stupid things that the mother never heard of. The mother married a second time, believing that she could give her children a better life, but the stepfather turned out to be a tyrant.
