"Rio and other poems" is the first book of poetry written by Eddie Gazani. Named after the first poem on the book, which takes the nickname of the city of his birth. The poem was written whilst in Rio de Janeiro prior to the Brazilian general election of 2018, where the military was sent by Brazil's government to take over public security of the city, due to violent crime and drug-gangs related wars. It was the first such move by the Brazilian government since the country's military dictatorship of his childhood. The book also contains another 29 poems that explore the themes of philosophy, aesthetics, travel, environmentalism, love, loss and mortality. Some of the poems were transformed into songs over the years and can be heard in some of the albums Eddie Gazani has released. In these verses, one can find a deep love for life, nature and travelling, it also contains contemplations on relationships, politics and humanism.
