The story of Jefferson County, Kentucky's last Indian massacre that occurred on July 17, 1789. The family of Richard Chenoweth, builder of Fort Nelson in Louisville, KY., was attacked. Three of Chenoweth's children and two young men working or staying with the family were killed at the family home on Chenoweth Run about a mile west of Floyds Fork. Other members of the family were scalped and wounded, but survived. This is the true story of the raid and its aftermath. Also includes in an appendix the "MEMORIAL AND PETITION OF THE PIONEERS" and the "PETITION OF THE INHABITANTS OF KENTUCKE" asking for protection and land from the new United States. These petitions have many of the names of the earliest pioneers and settlers of Kentucky.
