The story is fiction. The candy profiling system is not. Private security contractor Paul Harwood develops the candy profile to identify a threat to a local company. What Paul doesn't know is the culprit he is after is indirectly helping him with the development. Five years later Paul Harwood is a detective involved in the ultimate cat and mouse game with the same culprit as before. Although this time it's much more serious as the villain is not only a genius but also a serial killer using the candy profile to find victims. Paul Harwood's own high intellect and secrecy around the candy profile leads to him being the prime suspect in the Beachwood City murders. As the lead detective on the case, Paul has to battle against his own department, federal agents and a clinical psychologist who believes Paul is just as insane as the serial killer he is after. Not only does Paul have to go rogue to try to catch the psychopath Donny Donovan but also needs Donny's help to finish the candy profile.
