These FIVE dynamic plays, containing mature thought and outlook, were developed by playwrights at The New Hampshire Theatre Project. Children ages 8-18 originally performed these hard-hitting issue-oriented plays through NHTP's Junior and Senior Repertory Companies. This long-running program has been yielding play after play, educating youth after youth, and providing scholarships to further education for those graduating High School. FOREST SECRET's entrancing story is a delightful adventure that is designed to engage children in the enjoyment of nature and increase environmental awareness. In GALILEO'S PENDULUM, Galileo dared to challenge censorship at a time when people who spoke out were sometimes tortured or killed. Galileo was forced to recant his beliefs, at least publicly, but by then the truth was out. ONCE UPON A CANDLEMAS IN ARTHUR'S COURT Children on vacation in Wales meet legendary figures from out of time, who appear in the room of a 'museum' where the children learn the importance of history, ideas, truth and honor. THE SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM tells the Robin Hood story in a fresh, new way: from the point of view of the Sheriff, who is caught in the middle of his loyalty to the absent King Richard and the greedy usurper, King John. In WELL-BEHAVED WOMEN, the launch of the Women's Movement in 1848 in Seneca Falls and the 72 year complex struggle to get equal rights for women is explored. What is even more difficult to understand is why many of these issues still exist today.
