Herman Vanth, a reclusive bachelor who writes poetry guidebooks, has his self-contained world thrown into chaos when he receives a call from an old friend in his hometown. Soon he finds himself enmeshed in a world he never knew existed, from fairy legends in Georgia swamps to government DMT experiments, from South American temples to Babylonian ruins, he finds out that there is much more going on than he ever expected, and that it is all somehow connected. And as he draws closer to the hideous truth, he finds that he must face a festering darkness inside of his own soul.
