And what characters he creates! From the saintly to the wicked, the happy to the lost, William gives his imagination full rein. There is the court jester who fools his way through the Wars of the Roses, the Russian zookeepers, the teacher who can't be quiet in an exam, the candidates of the World championship self-gratification competition and the referee at football's World Cup Final - plus many more. Many of the tales are wickedly humorous, many have a sting in the tail, and in the end, there is William's tale itself, mysterious all the way to Shepperton - the end of the line.
