Uyazani had been a low-ranking soldier. A very good soldier. She had been reasonably happy. But that was before the stars appeared. Before everything had dissolved around her and reassembled as something else entirely. Few others seem aware that the world has changed and now as a special deputy to a new Queen she is charged with finding and returning others from her world who fled after the occurrence. Forced to conceal her true origins and feeling like she's lost a huge part of herself, Uyazani despises this unfamiliar place. As she traverses the landscape in search of others who share her memory of a world past, she grows consumed with the belief that the home she remembers still exists. Disguised as a proselytizer, she locates an asylum patient and former historian whose earlier research seems to suggest the possibility of a way back home. Fiercely determined to return, she must coax answers from the battered soul. But his mind is not what it once was, nor is she the only one who wants to unlock the secrets held in his addled brain. Racing against time, Uyazani is draw into a deadly tug of war with others who have much darker intentions. She must find a way to fend off the evil forces, protect the historian and unite the waves of his fractured memories to uncover the way home, or be forced accept that the world to which she desperately longs to return will be forever out of reach.
