When a massive solar storm sends a flare of energy directly at the Earth, an electromagnetic pulse of unprecedented magnitude destroys electronic devices in an instant. Its force also unleashes a series of earthquakes, further creating havoc on a world left in the dark. With no electricity, running vehicles, or easily accessible food and water, the thin veneer of civilization is swept away in a matter of hours. Owen MacGregor has been preparing for a breakdown of society for years, living alone in the outskirts of Tucson, Arizona. Trapped in a downtown bank vault when it strikes, he must first battle his way out of the city to reach home.
