This unusual multicultural novella is based on events taken from The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper articles between March 15 and April 14, 2015. Although the events that happened in San Diego are newspaper-based - this is a piece of fictional work. Anita, Jon-Jose, and Maria need to leave Tijuana quickly. Their goal is to reach Miguel's Cantina in Old Town, San Diego, in California. The three are accidentally separated, which forces them to take their own journey. All three encounter bizarre situations that are not uncommon. Although the story has a quirky element, it identifies realistic societal problems that include homelessness, drugs, human trafficking, and mass shootings in America. The story highlights compassionate people who guide Anita, Jon-Jose, and Maria through their perilous journey leading to a compromisable safety net. The epilogue explains what happened to Anita's mom and her corrupt cop husband.
