Wade Cochran, a diligent middle-aged man, determined to escape a controlling government because he is convinced that his recent dreams about a family are actually memories from his past. Everyone else is content with their daily duties in New America, believing they volunteered for the government that provides food, housing, and entertainment for their toils. When Wade begins to question what happened before New America, no one can remember. Wade convinces his best friend Jack and two new comers, Parker and Vectra, to join him in his quest for truth. When the news of a wall to confine all of New America reaches Wade, all bets are off, and the plan to escape is thrown into action. With little planning, the small group of friends breaks out of the compound, but on the outside they realize they only took the first steps in their thousand-mile journey.
