Thomas Jenkins is living the classic small-town life. It's his second year teaching English at a Catholic high school in the quirky mountain community of Cold Creek, and he and his wife are expecting their first baby. He's settling into his position as head of the school's English department and everything is going according to plan. But when he meets the cantankerous Madame Gallard, the French teacher and head of his school's Gardening Club, his life takes a left turn. Suddenly he is helping the Gardening Club in their attempt to win the national Green Campus Competition, which the school has never won before. Thomas finds himself in the middle of a fierce rivalry between Madame Gallard and the brash Texan Jim Screbbles, who is the head of the gardening club at the public high school across town. Screbbles wins the competition every year and Madame Gallard is determined to prove that a small Catholic school can build a better garden and create a greener campus. But when Jim suddenly turns up dead in Madame Gallard's garden, everyone thinks she did it! Now the town is up in arms and Thomas and Madame Gallard have to find the real culprit before she loses her job and the Gardening Club loses all they have worked for.
