One Perfect Journey
B R Freemont
Some time in the second half of the twenty-fifth century, two space explorers are force to land on a distant planet in order to await a repair mission coming from their base. They encounter a nation of aliens who are surprisingly human-like in appearance and intelligence. The country is ruled by a self-centered monarch who is deemed, by his subjects, to be "his infallible highness". While awaiting a rescue mission, the explorers must evade the monarch's schemes to employ them in his plots to take advantage of his weaker neighbors. The crises facing his infallible highness, frequently through his own making, require resolution in an ingenious manner. Although initially appearing to be science fiction, the story swiftly changes to encompass political satire.
