This work offers a unique perspective on a most beloved place: Ischia. "ISCHIA, the island of cinematography: a sociological study on its societal development" investigates how cinematography succeeded in activating the transformation of the "green island", a rural, impoverished island, into a modern, tourist destination. Events that are historical and sociological in nature are described with the enriching support of stories, anecdotes and local flairs gleaned from the shared memory of the Ischitans. This investigation seeks to understand the dynamics responsible for the transformation of this specific societal environment by identifying both the influential social changes and economic and cultural factors.
