Young faerie Jennet, having just completed her Rite of Passage into adulthood, anticipates an average life serving her isolated, all-female forest community. Then her world is changed forever when her city is attacked and destroyed, seemingly at random, by a contingent of human knights. Jennet escapes the bloodbath with a handful of survivors. They are taken in by the citizens of Nomad's Hollow, a subterranean settlement of male faeries who were cast out at birth by the ruling class of faerie women. Adjusting to her new life, Jennet makes new friends and enemies, coming to understand that the laws separating the sexes might not have been as necessary as the ancients believed. But the humans aren't finished with faeriekind. Jennet soon realizes that they will stop at nothing to drain the wells of magic that power all faerie communities, including Nomad's Hollow. She becomes determined to protect her new home, and the stage is set for a bloody battle between the tiny and the mighty!
