The C word. Cancer. It's the diagnosis no one wants to hear. Once you do that's it; your all in for the fight of your life. Everyone showers you with survivor stories and foundations and events. They try to let you know they support you and you will be ok. You see pictures of people ringing the bell after finishing chemo while hugging their family and celebrating their victory. This disease, it's just a bump in the road until you reach remission. All these feel good stories wrap you up and give you all the warm fuzzy feelings in an attempt to help you through your fight. I'm not discrediting any of this. The families that experience surviving are so lucky and should tell their story. There is a time when we all need hope and they can provide it. As you start the fight you need to know it's worth making because sometimes the fight is almost more than you can take. I am here to tell the other side of the story. What happens when you don't get to ring the bell and you didn't win your fight. This is the story of my mother losing her battle with cancer and how we have all learned to cope.
